Meetings With Archetypes

Archetypes are psychic energy patterns that form the underlying framework of consensus reality across cultures. Archetypes can manifest as religious deities, characters in myths, novels, dreams and film, and as energetic patterns driving behaviour of an individual or group. They can influence behaviour and aid our mental, emotional, and spiritual growth as human beings.

Common archetypal characters we instinctively recognise are characters such as the innocent, the carer, the realist, the hero, the lover, the sage/wise one, the warrior, the trickster/jester, the explorer, the rebel, the artist, the ruler, and the ethereal being, all of whom appeared in Journey into the Psyche. But archetypes aren’t just characters, they’re also concepts, such as the concept of rebirth that I explore in The Last Rose. Characters (and people) can also manifest as different archetypes at different times in their lives – see Persephone’s story below.

Archetypes are much more than powerful universal symbols – they are living energetic currents of energy that influence people’s lives. I have no idea where these archetypes that are appearing in my art will lead me, but they’re here, and I trust the journey to meet them in the realm of imagination is worth taking. I hope you’ll share my journey with me. Sign up to the Psychemagination newsletter to hear of new developments when they come along.

Meet the archetypes that call to me through my art.
